    6.8-08 Junkyard Dog

Well I rounded up most of the pieces for my Junkyard Dog 6.8-08 and chambered it this weekend. Not sure why I need this but I wanted to give this cartridge a chance to see what it will do with velocity, recoil and "inherent accuracy" (I love that term). I hope it does for the .270 Win what the .308 does for the 30-06. Using 150gr Berger VLD's to start with but have some Sierra 135gr MK's for backup, then there are the 130gr & 140gr Bergers.(I know I forgot to mention anything from Speer.)

All of the parts were just laying around the shop needing a home, 22" barrel, 1:10tw, 1.00" at muzzle and 1.25"x 4.5" long at chamber straight taper(probably do some weird fluting too), screwed a Lawton long action I had laying around on it. I hope to get a used wood factory Rem LA stock I can rework to a varmint profile(remember "Junkyard Dog") with a little extra wood and glue and a lot of filler and sanding, then a camo paint job. Chamber is just necked for .270 like the .243/.260/7mm-08/.308/.338 w/20° shoulder, nothing else different. Might even machine out some space age looking Aluminum stock, whatever I can find to wittle away on I guess.

Fun stuff with no expectations, oh man.

Well, EURO,  you mean like 6mmBR, PPC, 6.5-284, 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag. need I say more. It should have been maybe 7.04x51(military version). But anyway I think it sounds more mystic that ,270-08, or maybe I should refer to it as .270 SNM, (Short Non Magnum). Then there is always the necked up versions, .270-.243, .270-.260.

Yes - I don't own [hardly] no stinkin' metric stuff! ;) Well, except for a 6PPC . . . and [of course] my 30x47s . . . BUT, notice how I leave the MM designation to the imagination!  ;) Now, I do like .270SNM! :)  RG

Well after spending a total of $20.00(and that was for a gunstock), and not including the scope, on this gun. I have it together and shot it today(9 shots actually). No great velocity or accuracy to report I was just seeing if it would work and not blow me up. There isn't a wealth of load data for this thing. Now I'll have to do some load work up. Now I need to decide which Speer bullet to use in it!                                                                                                      So between this and my HBR gun I have a lot to keep me busy this winter, I know it will all go by to fast and next spring I'll be scratching my head wondering were the time went.
