Well I rounded up most of the pieces for my Junkyard Dog 6.8-08 and chambered it this weekend. Not sure why I need this but I wanted to give this cartridge a chance to see what it will do with velocity, recoil and "inherent accuracy" (I love that term). I hope it does for the .270 Win what the .308 does for the 30-06. Using 150gr Berger VLD's to start with but have some Sierra 135gr MK's for backup, then there are the 130gr & 140gr Bergers.(I know I forgot to mention anything from Speer.)
All of the parts were just laying around the shop needing a home, 22" barrel, 1:10tw, 1.00" at muzzle and 1.25"x 4.5" long at chamber straight taper(probably do some weird fluting too), screwed a Lawton long action I had laying around on it. I hope to get a used wood factory Rem LA stock I can rework to a varmint profile(remember "Junkyard Dog") with a little extra wood and glue and a lot of filler and sanding, then a camo paint job. Chamber is just necked for .270 like the .243/.260/7mm-08/.308/.338 w/20° shoulder, nothing else different. Might even machine out some space age looking Aluminum stock, whatever I can find to wittle away on I guess.
Fun stuff with no expectations, oh man.
