With fall coming on fast, my thoughts wander ever more toward hunting opportunities - past and future - and what hunts my pals have planned for the upcoming fall/winter . . . and I peruse my old pics, some of which prompt a "video stream" of memories: GREAT hunts, with a good pals. Here's a composit pic of yours truly: these were snapped twenty years ago - October, 1988, during my first hunting trip with [now] long-time hunting pal, Troy. We went on a week long coyote calling safari: we were unusually "successful" - in more ways than just bagging "game" . . . The ease of coyote hunting/calling, is that you just shot them all - size doesn't matter a c-dog is either, "the smallest one I ever shot", or, "the BIGGEST one I ever got", etc! ;) There is no indecision or "torment" in trying to decide if , "this one is worth tagging today" - they're all good trophies . . and the "tags" are limitless! :) This pair of coyotes were called-in using my old faithful Burnham Bros. Walnut body, equipped with a Circe "jack-rabbit" (baby-doll) type reed or, an "open reed" call, and shot with my old .270 Win., which drove 110 Gr. Hornady HP bullets at an honest 3400 FPS - poison on coyotes! Back to the c-dogs: they pretty much display the range of "size" ! On that initial hunt with Troy, we killed plenty of their brethern - enough that the Rancher (that was a South Dakota affair) invited up back each fall for many a great coyote hunt . . . it all ended when he invited us to hunt deer . . then, the WORK began! ;(
I posted this pic and another, with Troy, in my photo album - again, with my ability, the album makes for much better image quality.
I'd sure enjoy hearing some of YOUR huntin' memories . . . and seeing some pics! RG
