I took some Comp time from work this afternoon and decided to get started on loading for the 3 day shoot coming up this coming weekend. I cleaned up the brass I used yesterday, sized it, primed it and then went to the powder end of the bench. I weigh all of my charges and have for several years. I have an RCBS Chargmaster I use. I try to use it on automatic but always get impatient with waiting for the cycle. I have taken to throwing just under the charge I want and them trickling with the chargemaster. I think it faster.
I loaded 50 using both of the previously mentioned methods and then decided to do another test of the "Quality" powder measure I have wondering if I had improved any in my throwing ability. I threw and weighed 50 charges, zerowing the scale after each charge and here are my results: I had chosen 34.7g of H-4198 as the load I was wanting to use. I had 27 charges that were 34.7. I had 5 that were 34.6, 7 that were 34.5 and one that was 34.4. Going to the heavy side I had 8 that were 34.8 and 2 that were 34.9.
I guess it is easy enough to justify .1g one way or the other, that only gives one a .2g variation but there is a .5g difference between .4 and .9. I don't think my rifle will forgive that. Now, only 450 more cases to charge!
